Tutankhamons hjärta

Animation and action

Tutankhamons hjärta

Plot:
"Tutankhamons hjärta" (The heart of Tutankhamon) by Zirkus Loko-Motiv is a dramatized journey through the Egyptian collections of the Mediterranean Museum in Stockholm. The performance was created in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the discovery of Tutankhamon's tomb.

Idea:
To integrate projections in various ways, partly in the form of an animated scarab that guides the audience through parts of the journey, partly an Augmented Reality version of Nefertiti where she tells about aspects of her family ties, and an animation that concludes the journey where Tutankhamon regains his lost heart and finally finds peace.

Process:
Nefertiti and Tutankhamon's dialogues were filmed separately with actors. The filmed mouth movements were then merged with the animated faces using motion detection. The Nefertiti sequence was created as AR using the Artivive app and an iPad. The goal was to make the technology as invisible as possible, and we timed all the animated sequences to integrate with the dialogues and events. To allow for the projection's movement, I worked with a small wireless projector. The scarab's journey was projected on the floor and stairs. Tutankhamon's portrait appeared as a rear projection in a floating frame down in the crypt.
